Need some networkhelp :-)
Mikkel
Hi everyone,

I was hoping for some help to get a wireless network running with the Live box.

I got the livebox but not with the PCMCIA card, as I had a wireless router from SMC which I used before for the adsl (I thought I could use it for the wanadoo).

So my question is what is the easiest way to get the internet wireless? I don't care that much if the network isen't working, but I would prefer to have some use of my router.

I'm sorry about my dutch, but I hope you will give me some feedback anyway Cool

There is already a router in the livebox.
So it's not wise to use 2 routers.
I had the same issue with my wireless Belkin router.
The thing I did was degrading my wireless router only to function as a Wireless acesspoint and connect it to one of the ethernetports of the livebox.
If you want also use it as a router, you must configure the router in bridged mode. Search on this site about bridge mode and you'll find a topic about this.

There are 2 problems with bridged mode:

- you can't use telephony with it.
- After a reboot/powercycle of the livebox the bridged settings are gone.

John, how do you degrade the router to an accesspoint? as it could seem as the easiest solution.

Wanabo, I might give your solution a try.. I just need to find the smc guide

And thanks for all the help so far..

Mikkel,
What kind of SMC wireless router you have?
You must look in the manual or pickup the manual on
http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=downloads.searchCriteria&localeCode=EN_NLD

Most time you can enter the configuration by URL, where your URL is the ip number of your gateway (DOS box, ipconfig)

Mikkel,

I use my SMC modem/router only as switch and WIFI acces point.
before you connect the SMC to your network and the Livebox, please default you SMC to the factory defaults. Then switch the DHCP server off.
And only configure your wirreless settings.

The best way to do this is to connect the SCM with a networkkabel to your pc and give your pc a fixed ip-adres in the range of 192.168.0.x

Then set your settings as i suggested above. Save your settings in the SMC. and then connect 1 of the switch ports to your livebox and 1 with your computer.

Don't forget to reboot the SMC and the livebox as well, and setback your ip-adres settings of your pc.

Now the SMC only functions as a switch and WIFI-acces point.

I hope this helps, it works for me
I'm using a SMC7904WBRA modem/router

Mikkel,

Give your WAP an steady 192.168.x number greater than 50 eg 192.168.1.51.
Cause your livebox DHCP server give numbers from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.50.
When you degrade the wireless router to WAP, dhcp does not function anymore automaticly (it's part of the router)
