allornothing
Hi, and thanks again for your reply.

A few minutes ago I tried Elitebravo's instructions again from the top (you never know!) and found that I couldn't turn off the firewall unless I had changed the router password, something I didn't notice the first time around, so the first time round I guess I hadn't really turned off the firewall.

Hoping that this was the problem I completed the rest of the steps and tried again.

I successfully turned off the firewall, changed VDSL2 to bridge mode, turned off wifi and turned off DHCP. My linksys router is already set to 192.168.1.2. After setting VDSL2 to bridge mode and saving that setting the internet light went out on the Huawei and I lost internet on the connected PC. I carried on anyway, because for all I know, bridging only works to a router, and not directly to a PC...

After reconnecting the cables Huawei ---> Linksys router ---> PC and restarting the Linksys router and the PC I still didn't have internet on the PC, but I could connect to the Linksys router via the direct cable connection on 192.168.1.2.

To get back online on the PC I reset the Huawei and connected it again by cable directly to the PC. My PC address has changed to 192.168.1.65.

And I have just run through it all again so I could check if after bridging the Huawei my PC IP address had changed, but it didn't. I also notice that the internet icon in the systray says I have internet on the PC, but I don't. The Windows 7 internet troubleshooter says the DNS server isn't responding. This is with the Huawei in bridged mode, connected directly to the PC. Now I'll reset the Huawei again to get back online and send this post.

I can do any screenshots you like, but of what in particular? My earlier attempt to attach a screenshot failed but I'm happy to try again!

Hi again;

I made a screenshot of the Status-WAN-Network tab, but it won't attach to my post. It's a 136kb jpg, I don't understand why it won't attach.

Anyway, here are the three interesting lines from that tab:

Verbindingsstatus
WAN3_INTERNET_TR069_VOICE_R_PTM4_0_1_0 Verbonden 15:36:58 VDSL

IP Informatie
WAN3_INTERNET_TR069_VOICE_R_PTM4_0_1_0 85.150.xxx.xxx 255.255.0.0 85.150.0.1

DNS-gegevens
WAN3_INTERNET_TR069_VOICE_R_PTM4_0_1_0 194.134.5.55 194.134.5.5

The only thing that means anything at all to me is our public IP address.

Hope that helps!

PS the Modem tab in my browser keeps refreshing every 5 seconds or so. Is that normal? Also, when I bridge the modem the internet light goes out on it, and I still haven't discovered if that is normal or not, can you tell me please?

Hi!

Understood for the screenshots in future, I can put them on Imgur.

Here's what you asked for. I hope you mean with the Huawei working as router directly connected to the PC. Sorry about the formatting:

Is prima zo.

Succes!

Hi;

you say: "Pak WAN3 VDSL als interface..." I guessed you mean on the 'Basis>WAN>WAN verbinding' page choose the third option, VDSL2, the one marked as Verbonden and showing our public IP. Is that right? Because on that page they are not numbered.

Well, that's the one I changed, I set it to IP_Bridged, checked the Poortbinding: 'LAN1' box, turned off the firewall, turned off Wifi, turned off DHCP.

I wasn't sure either what you meant by "connect the PC to LAN1 and start the PC." The PC was already connected to LAN1, that's the only way I know to control the Huawei. Am I missing something here?

Anyway, I rebooted the PC in safe mode with networking, but there was no internet on the PC. While I had it in safe mode I copied ipconfig /all. Then I reset the Huawei and restarted the PC to get back online.

Here's the ipconfig /all copy:

It looks the same to me, but I don't really know what you're looking at lol

Now I'm repeating it all. This time I'll reboot the modem after reconfiguring it as well as the PC and disconnect and reconnect the cable to LAN1. Just for the magic of it.

Here we go.

Huidig firewallniveau: Uit. Check.
VDSL2/ IP_Bridged/ Verbonden/ 1. Check.
Wifi off. check
DHCP server (on the Basis > LAN page) off. Check.

Disconnect cable from Huawei, restart Huawei, wait, reconnect cable to LAN1, reboot PC in safe mode with networking. Aaaaaaaaaaaannnnndddd... no magic, no internet :-(

Copied config /all while back in safe mode, no change I think, here it is:

It still looks the same to me.

Then I reset the Huawei and restarted the PC to get back online. The only things I noticed while doing this is that the Poortbinding: 'LAN1' box on the Basis >WAN>VDSL2 setting isn't checked by default, although I'm obviously connected. I checked that box on the first of these two attempts, not on the second. It's not checked now, since I reset the Huawei. And of course the internet light on the Huawei went out while it was bridged, which you say is normal. I only comment on it again because, well, no internet, no internet light. It kinda stands out. Is it a light to say the Huawei is sending internet? Or receiving it?

You were sounding very hopeful, I hate to disappoint you, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Is there anything else we can try? Or have I made a mistake in my process as I have listed it above?

Thanks again for your patience, it's good of you to give up so much time to help us! :-)

Hi;

you were right, 'DHCP transparante overdracht' was not checked, it was never checked, I didn't even notice it or know what it is. So I checked it and repeated everything, including the 4 configuration steps (now 5, with the DHCP transparante overdracht), rebooted the Huawei and reconnected the cable, and restarted the PC in safe mode, but still no internet. Here is the ipconfig /all copy while I was in safe mode, this time with the DHCP transparante overdracht checked, in case you can see a difference:

After a coffee I just ran through it all again. Two things I'm wondering about. First, with the Huawei in bridge mode I have no internet, but the internet icon in the systray says I do have internet. And second, remembering all the confusion I had trying to bridge our old modem, I wonder why I can talk to the Huawei at all when it's 'bridged', because looking back, once I had bridged the old modem, I couldn't talk to it any more.

I'm still googling around, can't think what else to do...

I R Baboon
