Wat is er mogelijk met het modem en hoe doe je het? Hoe kom je in het configuratiescherm? Heeft deze router wireless? Waar vind je wat in de schermen? Kun je nog extra dingen instellen, bijv. via telnet? Zijn er problemen bekend met dit modem? en hoe los je ze op?

ADSL standard G992.1 has a 8 Mbit/s download limit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.992.1)
ADSL standard G992.5 (ADSL2+) has 24 Mbit/s (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.992.5)

Online gives 30 Mbit speed at the basic level now.
For which standard should I configure the modem (which knows ADSL, ADSL2+,VDSL,..) to get the 30 Mbit/s?

I tried the configurations in the FAQ and got 8 Mbit maximum.

Also, I am an old user of Online. Do I need to cancel and restart my contract to get the new speeds or I should get them also when continuing the contract ?

In the best conditions you can have the maximum speed in other ways the speed is lower.

Normally the modem should do the trick by itself. Don't try to update firmware.

Online configures the line in dependency from the distance to the DSLAM, which is either in the telephone central or very close to your area.

Let me rephrase my question:

I have a Fritz box 7390.

It was set semi -automatically - when I choose Nederland as a country it took automatically Annex B for ADSL - I only had to change VPI / VCI to 8 / 35.
The maximum download speed is "Max. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 8800 896" - 8800 kbit/ sec download, 896 upload. Usually it is around 8400 kbit/sec.
This is relatively close to 8 Mbit / sec.
Online says that it gives, under the best conditions, 30 Mbit /sec.

So my worry is that I am receiving less than 30% of the speed because of a wrong settting at my end and not because of the limits of the channel. (If I've got 5 Mbit/sec or 13 Mbit/sec I would had no problem, but 8 Mbit/sec is too close to a standard limit so it makes me think to wrong setting or throttling).

My questions are:
1. Did I configure anything wrong ?


2. The configurations given in the FAQ are from a time when the basic internet offering was less than today - now using the G992.1 modulation as in the FAQ you have no chance to get the 30 Mbit /sec.
Also the DNS given to me by Online is 194.134.216.70 and not 194.134.5.55 as the FAQ states. So, as a general question, is it the time to revisit the FAQ ?

3. Does anybody get better connection with Fritz box 7390 ? If yes - which parameters ? (maybe I should move this last question to another part of the forum ?)

Do I undestand correctly that the line is configured based on the distance of my house to the DSLAM? That means - no reason to upgrade to a faster abonnement if I don't get 100% of the speed now - my house will not move closer to the DSLAM so the line parameters won't be changed anyway.
